Beautifully unique are the first words that come to mind when one views Black Diamond for the first time. This ultra exclusive gated community is unlike any development anywhere in Florida. In fact it is unlike any development anywhere in the world. It is a place where elegant commodious homes perch unobstrusively on the borders of three marvelous and challenging golf courses.
Black Diamond Ranch encompasses an area of 3.9 square miles or 10.2 square kilometers. Its 1,320 acres at a very low population density allow for expansive views throughout the community. It is bordered to the north by Pine Ridge to the east by Lecanto and Pine Ridge, and to the south by Lecanto.
The entire development is a nature preserve with an abundance of wildlife sure to delight any expert or amateur naturalist. On any given day, residents may come across fox- squirrels, rabbits and their nemeses, predators such as foxes and bobcats, as well as a variety of avian species. The setting itself, on the flowing, undulating hills of Lecanto, Florida has been kept in large part in its natural original state. Majestic old oaks abound on the property and shade the well-manicured, verdant lawns of the elegant homes. There are also two retired limestone quarries that in the 1960’s provided the roadbed for Interstate 75. These extensive excavations add an unusual and spectacular dimension to the natural beauty of this enclave.
Then there are the amenities and activities available at Black Diamond Ranch. The spacious clubhouse offers a variety of options from world-class cuisine in the main dining room as well as a 24-hour fitness center. There are weekly cooking and crafting classes and regular card games. There is a junior Olympic size pool and a pair of HarTru clay tennis courts. Residents also enjoy walking, running and biking throughout this stunning community. There are also member-organized clubs with wide ranging interests, along with committees that do commendable charity works.
There are, as one might expect of a top end golfing community, a well-stocked pro shop, a chippings green, a putting green and an extensive driving range with three teeing grounds. And finally, we get to the crowning jewel of Black Diamond Ranch. Three jewels in fact. Three fabulous golf courses designed by premier golf course architect, Tom Fazio. There is the nine-hole Highlands Course with its challenging, sometimes uphill play. This course, with greens soft enough to hold approach and fast enough to thrill, can be played in tandem with the front nine of either of the other two courses. Next we have the 18-hole Ranch Course, which blends into the natural contour of the terrain. The Ranch course is a challenging course requiring strategic tee placement with narrowing fairways protected by bunkers and dotted and bordered by native vegetation. It is a favorite of many residents. Now we come to Black Diamond Ranch’s Quarry Course, undisputedly, the most spectacular course in Florida. The first 12 holes offer challenging changes in elevation that require strategic play as well as accurate judgment in order to avoid numerous treacherous bunkers. Holes 13 to 17surround intimidating 80-foot cliffs that may either be played cautiously around their edges or with courageously long wood shots across the void. But be aware that many a golf ball has found a permanent home at the bottom of the Quarry Course.
